Chapter 4: Do some Jobs Around the House:

  • Brush away any cobwebs
  • Vacuum and wash the floor
  • Clean windows, walls, doors and cupboards
  • Wipe clean the piano, organ, TV, tables
  • Fix up all the ornaments on the sideboard and cupboards, dust and polish them
  • Dust and polish the aquarium cover
  • Scrub the aquarium walls, inside and out, and replenish the water
  • Remove anything from the loungeroom that should not be there!

Hallway:

  • Brush away any cobwebs
  • Vacuum and wash the floor
  • Shake clean the mats
  • Organise the bookshelf and glassware

In the bathroom:

  • Brush away any cobwebs
  • Clean and scrub the floors, bath and shower recess, basins and toilet
  • Clean and dry the bathmats
  • Check that towels are in order; wash and dry them if necessary
  • Purge cupboards and drawers of all filth and rubbish
  • Clean the windows, doors and walls.

In the Family Room:

  • Clean out the fireplace and remove the ashes
  • Wipe and polish the fireplace
  • Reset the fire
  • Brush away any cobwebs
  • Vacuum and wash the floor
  • Tidy the white desk, wipe and polish it
  • Complete all ironing, put away all the clothes
  • Tidy-up and dust and clean the telephone table
  • Tidy up the notice board, destroy old notices
  • Tidy up the cupboard beneath the notice board.

In the laundry:

  • Remove any rubbish
  • Brush away any cobwebs
  • Vacuum-clean and wash the floor
  • Scrub the tubs, washing-machine and dryer
  • Clean away all cobwebs
  • Tidy up the waiting clothes

In the Linen Cupboard:

  • Remove everything, chuck out rubbish and obsolete stuff
  • Clean the cupboard
  • Fold up all the contents, and replace carefully in the cupboard.

With the Dog:

  • Play with the Dog
  • Take the Dog for a walk to the shop

In the garden:

  • Weeding

  • Spreading fertilizer

  • Planting new seeds and seedlings
  • Pruning old plants
  • Gather up old foliage for the bonfire
  • Pluck flowers to put inside

Around the driveway:

  • Gather gravel and soil to fill in the holes
  • Rake the surface to make it smooth
  • Gather rocks to line the edges
  • Concrete rocks along the edges

Near the old shed:

  • Tidy up the shed
  • Burn the rubbish
  • Get rubbish ready for the tip

For the Lawn:

  • Dig out the weeds
  • Water it all
  • Mow the lawns

For Firewood:

  • Pump up tyres on the trailer
  • Paint the trailer
  • Fix up wiring and lights on the trailer
  • Sharpen the axe
  • Oil the bushman’s saw
  • Cut down some dead trees
  • Gather up old logs
  • Gather up wood in the trailer and convey to woodheap
  • Gather sticks for kindling
  • Chop the wood
  • Rake up around the woodheap
  • Take cut logs and kindling to the house

Around the house:

  • Remove all rubbish
  • Sweep cobwebs from eaves and windows
  • Clean and scrub all outside windows
  • Sweep all the pavements and front veranda
  • Clean out leaves and dirt from roof gutters
  • Clean out stormwater channels and sumps
  • Fix all broken windows
  • Fix any broken tiles and grouting on roof
  • Clean and scrub the grease trap, take away the sludge
  • Take rubbish to the Mack’s Reef Road tip

For the dam:

  • Fix up jetty tank, posts and platform
  • Clear leaves and rubbish from the dam
  • Replace oil in the Ajax dam pump
  • Adjust valves and seals in the pump
  • Pump water from dam to the hill-top tank

With the Railway Carriage/ Shed:

  • Remove all rubbish
  • Clean and scrub the floor, walls and windows
  • Tidy up all furniture, boxes etc
  • Play!

With Tunnels:

  • Build underground forts

With Tree Houses:

  • Build the treehouse and play in it

Bike Maintenance:

  • Pump up tyres
  • Clean and scrub them
  • Repair punctures
  • Adjust seat height
  • Lubricate chain, bearings and cables
  • Adjust the brakes
  • Test that it all works OK
  • Then, when it’s all grubby and horrid, do it all again!

Car Maintenance:

  • Wash outside
  • Polish the outside
  • Remove any filth and junkensteins in cabin and boot
  • Vacuum clean inside, and wipe it all down, including windows
  • Check oil
  • Check water
  • Check tyres (including spare)
  • Check accessories in glovebox: pen & paper, scissors, torch etc.
  • Check boot: Spare tyre and tools, tow rope, battery jumper cables
